Its quite normal now for a company to share a server in a data centre then pay a monthly “rental” for this. Your IT supplier will wrap this cost up with hosting the website and CRM system, including any support services. This is not leasing a server due to the joint ownership of the computer equipment.
However, many companies will look to install a server – or a number of servers – in a secure data centre. This is where you can lease the server(s). In 2017, we arranged a lease for a University that put 30 servers into numerous data centres throughout the UK.
The interesting point here is that technically the leased server is not on your premises, which often is a requirement of a lease. As long as we tell our underwriter, they are normally OK with this.
